Delta Dental of Virginia has committed to give $1 million to practices throughout the state in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Augusta Free Press.
The $1 million includes $500,000 in grants to support the operations of 32 dental safety net clinics that are ineligible for federal funding. Another $250,000 will be designated for the Dental Practice Relief Fund to support practices that have closed due to COVID-19.
Delta Dental has set aside $200,000 for one-time grants of up to $25,000 to nine non-profits. The insurer will also provide $50,000 in toothbrushes for families.
"The world seems to have changed overnight, and we want to do all we can to protect our employees, dentists and customers," said Frank Lucia, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Virginia, according to the Augusta Free Press. "As a Virginia-based company, we're in a unique position to observe the needs in our communities. That's why we've decided to provide these funds now to help protect so many vital services."
