About 69 percent of dentists' total weekly collections were less than 5 percent of what is typical for their practice, according to a poll by the ADA Health Policy Institute for the week of April 6.
The biweekly poll was taken by 6,441 dentists.
Three key findings:
1. Vermont and Arkansas had the highest rates of practices fully closing, with dentists reporting 38 percent and 31 percent of practices closed, respectively.
2. Two weeks ago, 27 percent of dentists paid their staff full salaries, compared to 11 percent for the week ending April 6. The percentage not paying any staff rose from 28 percent to 44 percent.
3. If the pandemic continues through the end of August, 46 percent of dentists said they would consider closing, selling or filing for bankruptcy.
