Eureka, Mo.-based Oral Facial Surgery Center reported that its internet-based payment system was hacked and nearly $10,000 was stolen, according to The Leader.
Executives at the practice told police that an unauthorized third party had gained access to the payment system on Jan. 28. After an investigation, the Oral Facial Surgery Institute determined that the money had been transferred to a credit card in England through the Bank of Scotland.
There is no evidence that patients' financial or personal information was viewed or accessed during the incident. The payment system is operated by an outside vendor.
