The former co-owner of Springfield, Mo.-based All About Smiles was sentenced to two years and eight months in federal prison for failing to pay employment taxes and collecting unemployment benefits that he wasn't entitled to, according to local news station KY3.
Lorin Van Drie, 61, was convicted alongside is wife and co-owner of All About Smiles, Pamela Van Drie, 60, in February 2019, on all 40 counts of a federal indictment. Mr. Van Drie was convicted of conspiracy to defraud the government and 18 counts of fraud.
Ms. Van Drie was sentenced in October 2019 to four years and nine months in federal prison. She was also ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution.
Investigators found that between Jan. 31, 2013, and Jan. 31, 2015, Mr. Van Drie and his wife failed to pay payroll taxes. The two were found to have failed to pay more than $194,000 in taxes. Instead, investigators claimed the two used the money to purchase a boat, vehicles and jewelry.
Along with the payroll tax conspiracy, Mr. Van Drie was found guilting of collecting $26,880 in unemployment benefits that he was not entitled to. Investigators claimed that while he was collecting benefits, he was working at his own construction company.
