Through the Omaha-based University of Nebraska Medicine College of Dentistry's teledentistry program school nurses are treating students for dental conditions, according to local news station KOLN.
A camera and tablet along with dental equipment are set up in some schools throughout Omaha. If a child visits the nurse for tooth pain or another dental need, the nurse video chats with the dentist at the university.
The dentist talks the nurse through the appointment, providing recommendations and next steps.
This is among one of the few teledentistry programs in the country. However, the University of Nebraska Medicine College of Dentistry has seen success and plans to continue expanding throughout the state.
