Carbondale-based Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine was granted approval Dec. 5 to build a new clinic.
The $11.5 million Advanced Care Clinic will be developed with funding from grants, revenue reserves, plant funds and internal/external financing. Southern Illinois University will repay the debt service with clinic operation revenues, equipment usage fees and future donations.
To build the new clinic, the dental school will demolish a vacated lab. The new clinic will be used by dental students to treat community residents. Additionally, Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine plans to add general anesthesia capabilities in two operating suites to expand its reach.
