Thousands of patients expected at free 2-day dental care clinic in Phoenix

Arizona's largest free dental clinic, held Dec. 13-14, is expecting 2,000 patients to receive dental care, according to local radio station KTAR News.

The eighth annual Arizona Dental Mission of Mercy will take place at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix. The clinic expects to deliver about $2 million in free care, Kevin Conroy, executive director of the Central Arizona Dental Society Foundation, which puts on the clinic, told KTAR News.

Patients should plan for long wait times or even to camp out overnight, Mr. Conroy said. He expects people to start lining up as early as Dec. 11.

Nearly 1,700 volunteer dental professionals will focus on treating pain and infection at 100 portable dental units in the arena. Services include cleanings, extractions and fillings, Mr. Conroy said, along with root canals, crowns or other tooth replacements. Mr. Conroy said the event is for adults, but children will be treated if they attend.
