Patterson Companies released a statement Oct. 16 regarding a Federal Trade Commission judge's decision that the company had neglected to negotiate with dental buying groups.
"We strongly disagree with any finding against Patterson and believe that the facts demonstrate the company's independent decision-making in a highly competitive industry. We are evaluating all of our legal options, including appealing to the full Commission to review the facts of the matter," the company said in a statement.
The judge ruled Oct. 16 that Patterson and Benco Dental Supply Co. were guilty of conspiring against dental product buying groups. These buying groups are formed by private practice and small-group dental practices to negotiate better prices on various products.
"Patterson takes compliance very seriously and maintains the highest levels of integrity and ethical standards while partnering with all types of customers to support their businesses and provide outstanding care to their patients," Patterson said in the Oct. 16 statement.
