The Dental Board of California is cautioning dentists about a recent drug trafficking scheme, according to a Sept. 9 blog post by the California Dental Association.
Scammers are posing as board members and telling dentists that they are under investigation for drug trafficking. The scammers are telling dentists that the police, Drug Enforcement Agency and FBI are involved in the investigations.
According to the CDA, the scammers may use disguised phone numbers to make the call seem like it is coming from a board member.
"Board staff members or investigators will never contact licensees demanding money or payment of any form without conducting an official investigation or inquiry," and email alert from the dental board said, according to the CDA.
Dentists are advised to contact the dental board directly if they believe they are being targeted.
