Anthem Blue Cross launched a tool that gives dentists access to integrated patient health histories in real time to better manage patients' chronic conditions, increase early detection, improve patient outcomes and reduce employers' costs.
The Dental Patient Health History tool give dentists access to patients' prescription medications, medical diagnosis, care gap alerts and lab test results through a single source. Anthem aims to help dentists better identify new or existing health risks, including oral cancer, diabetes, autoimmune conditions or medication side effects.
"Because 90 percent of diseases' first symptoms are oral, improving early detection is crucial to successful treatment," said Anthem's dental division president Scott Towers. "The Dental Patient Health History tool provides dentists with a previously unavailable wealth of patient care and condition history allowing them to make more informed decisions and improve outcomes."
Dentists who are unfamiliar with ICD coding can better understand the information through the tool, as the Dental Patient Health History solution gives dentists access to ICD-10 medical codes accompanied with simple explanations.
Anthem dentists who are part of the insurers preferred provider organization can access the tool.
