A Greenly, Colo.-based dentist was sentenced July 29 to three years in prison for illegally prescribing opioids to employees, according to local Fox affiliate KDVR.
Bonifacio Guillena, DDS, who worked at Comfort Dental, pleaded guilty in January to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. A former employee tipped off authorities about Dr. Guillena's prescribing patterns.
Dr. Guillena was allegedly writing prescriptions to employees for Xanax, Percocet and oxycontin. His illegal prescriptions started as early as February 2017, KDVR reports.
Dr. Guillena's dentistry license was suspended at the end of 2017. Dr. Guillena then surrender his license in 2018.
