New Jersey has selected Darwin Hayes, DDS, to serve as its state dental director after leaving the position vacant for 30 years, according to NJ Spotlight.
As the dental director, Dr. Hayes will oversee dental programs and services provided throughout the state. Dental health advocates hope that Dr. Hayes will make it his mission to expand access to fluoridated water throughout the state.
Dr. Hayes has spent the last seven years as a leader within New York City-based BronxCare Health System. He was responsible for helping run a $3.5 million federal grant project that focused on integrating oral health and primary care.
Along with his dental degree, Dr. Hayes earned a master's degree in healthcare administration from George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health in Washington, D.C.
