SmileDirectClub ranks as a top user of 3D printers

With SmileDirectClub's partnership with HP, the dental company will have the largest deployment of the HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D printers, according to ZDNet.

The 49 3D printers run nonstop and produce around 50,000 mouth molds a day, an HP spokesperson told ZDNet. SmileDirectClub will be able to print roughly 20 million molds during the next year.

More 3D printing companies are getting into the medical space. 3D systems and Stratasys have a presence in the dental and healthcare markets, according to ZDNet.

SmileDirectClub has provided aligners for more than 500,000 customers in the U.S. The company plans to expand its services to Australia and the U.K., ZDNet reports.

HP and SmileDirectClub have also made a commitment to start a recycling program that would take excess 3D material and processed mouth molds and recycle them into pellets for injection molding.
