Few U.S.-based schools made QS World University Rankings' list of the top dental schools in 2018, and the University of Michigan's School of Dentistry was the one to crack the top 10. The rankings organization assessed academic reputation, employer reputation, research citations and other factors to determine its list.

1. University of Hong Kong Faculty of Dentistry
2. King's College Dental Institute in London, U.K.
3. Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan School of Dentistry
4. Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam in Netherlands
5. Tokyo (Japan) Medical and Dental University
6. Karolinska (Sweden) Institutet Department of Dental Medicine
7. University of Bren (Switzerland) School of Dental Medicine
8. University College London Eastman Dental Institute
9. KU Leuven (Belgium) School of Dentistry
10. University of Gothenburg (Sweden) Institute of Odontology
Other U.S. universities to make the list include Boston-based Harvard University School of Dental Medicine (12th), University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Adams School of Dentistry (13th) and Seattle-based University of Washington School of Dentistry (14th).
