Tennessee dentist admits to shooting girlfriend in his home: 5 things to know

Bartlett, Tenn.-based dentist Bobby Massengill, DDS, was arrested for shooting and killing a woman who was living with him, according to WREG.com.

Here are five things to know:

1. When police arrived at Dr. Massengill’s home to treat Shelia Scott, she had been shot in the chest. As she was being treated, Ms. Scott allegedly confirmed Dr. Massengill had shot her, according to the arrest records.

2. Ms. Scott was sent to Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., where she died the following day.

3. Soon after his arrest, Dr. Massengill admitted to being in a relationship with Ms. Scott. He said after shooting Ms. Scott he tried to reload the weapon to shoot himself.

4. Dr. Massengill did not admit why he shot Ms. Scott. He is in custody and charged with first-degree murder.

5. The dentist has no criminal history.
