The Florida Senate has passed a bill preemptively preventing local municipalities from adding fluoride to water supplies, according to an April 16 report from Tallahassee Democrat.
SB 700 would make Florida the second state to prohibit fluoride after Utah implemented a ban in March.
A number of municipalities across Florida have already made the decision to remove fluoride, while others have voted to keep the mineral in its water supplies.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. advised the CDC to stop recommending adding fluoride to public water supplies and is working with the EPA to review new information on potential health risks of fluoride.
The bill now heads to the Florida House of Representatives for consideration.
