The American Association of Orthodontists is warning of a new scam targeting its members.
Five notes:
1. The organization said that on March 25, it learned of deceptive emails designed to mimic official communications.
2. The emails prompt recipients to verify their personal information by clicking on a hyperlink that leads to a fake website that mimics the AAO’s official site.
3. Recipients are threatened with losing their license if they do not verify or update their information before the link expires in 24 hours.
4. Once on the fraudulent website, members are prompted to log into the site using their credentials.
5. The AAO urged members who did not click the link to mark the email as spam. Those who did click the link are told to immediately change their login credentials and contact AAO Member Services to report the incident and receive further support.
