The Benton Harbor (Mich.) City Commission recently decided to postpone a decision on whether the city should restart its water fluoridation program, WSJM reported Feb. 2.
Four notes:
1. The city ended its fluoridation program about two and a half years ago as it dealt with issues at its water plant.
2. During a recent commission meeting, City Manager Alex Little recommended restarting the program as a way to support dental health for children, but he was met with reservations from Mayor Marcus Muhammad.
3. The mayor said during the meeting that he is open to learning more about the potential health effects of water fluoridation.
4. Commissioners voted to table the matter, and it is unknown when the commission could discuss the topic again.
