More than 70% of Kansas residents support reducing or eliminating fluoride from the state's water supply, according to a Jan. 16 report from The Sentinel.
In September, a federal judge ruled that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency must address the impact that fluoride has in drinking water in response to an August from the National Toxicology Program that claimed that drinking water with more than double the recommended limit has been associated with lower IQ levels in children.
A poll conducted on behalf of the Kansas Policy Institute found that 41% of residents believe that water companies should reduce fluoride levels and 31% want fluoride completely removed without waiting for recommendations from the EPA.
Less than 5% of respondents wanted water companies to add more fluoride, while 24% of residents support the companies not making any changes.
The survey polled more than 900 adults from Kansas.
