The American Dental Association called for revisions in the National Toxicology Program's third draft report on the effects of fluoride exposure.
The NTP has been working on a systematic review of a possible relationship between fluoride exposure and neurodevelopmental and cognitive health.
The ADA sent five recommendations for the report in an April 28 letter to Kathleen Gray, PhD, chair of the NTP Board of Scientific Counselors. The ADA said its recommendations aimed to enhance the report’s scientific integrity, clarity, transparency and timeliness. The dental agency also noted that its revisions support the scientific literacy of the public and elected officials who oversee water fluoridation policies.
