The American Dental Association recently committed $5 million to a campaign supporting a ballot measure that would establish a medical loss ratio for dental payers in the state.
The dental agency has been working with the Massachusetts Dental Society on support for the measure, which would require dental insurance companies to spend at least 83 percent of premium dollars on patient care or refund the difference to patients. The measure would also require dental insurers to disclose projected medical loss ratio, file the following year's group product base rates by July and release other specific financial information. It also authorizes the Massachusetts Division of Insurance commissioner to approve or disapprove of product rates.
ADA President Cesar Sabates, DDS, announced the financial commitment to the Massachusetts Dental Care Providers for Better Dental Benefits campaign in a Sept. 15 email to ADA members, according to a Sept. 15 news release. The email also asked members to consider donating to the campaign.
