CMS released proposals with changes to dental service fees, and several clinical groups urged the federal organization to expand care under Medicare.
Here are five recent CMS updates for dentists to know:
1. In July, CMS proposed to pay for more dental services as part of its proposed Calendar Year 2023 Physician Fee Schedule and offered an increase to facility fees for dental surgeries performed in hospitals
2. The American Dental Association commented on CMS' proposal to provide dental coverage under certain medically necessary conditions.
3. The American Dental Association gave several suggestions to CMS to improve Medicare Advantage plans, including analyzing data on supplemental benefits, changing reporting requirements and providing more transparency on benefits and plan design.
4. A group of medical organizations asked lawmakers to expand dental care coverage under Medicaid with the Medicaid Dental Benefit Act and the Medicaid Dental Benefits Act of 2021.
5. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons asked CMS to expand access to surgical dental services for children and adults with special needs and disabilities.
