The Biden administration has declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency and four more clinical leadership updates Becker's has reported on since Aug. 5:
1. Infectious disease experts from St. Luke’s University Health Network are calling on dentists to watch out for oral lesions caused by monkeypox as the number of cases rises in the U.S.
2. The American Dental Association joined 27 organizations calling on the FDA to ban menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars in the U.S.
3. As the number of monkeypox cases continues to rise globally and in the U.S., several dentists feel confident that they can survive another public health emergency.
4. Liability insurance company the Dentists Insurance Company received an increased number of calls to its advice line about patients displaying aggression and anger toward dental professionals.
5. The Biden administration declared the monkeypox outbreak a public health emergency Aug. 4, clearing the way for officials to access additional resources to control the outbreak.
