The American Dental Association joined 27 organizations calling on the FDA to ban menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars in the U.S.
The FDA proposed bans on the two products in April to prevent use among youth and reduce tobacco-related disease and death.
In letters to the FDA sent Aug. 2, the groups said the menthol ban meets the statutory public health standard under the Tobacco Control Act. They also said the ban on flavored cigars will help prevent tobacco-caused mortality, tobacco addiction and disease, and reduce health disparities in the U.S.
