Integrated medical and dental care can lead to improved diagnosis and management of diabetes, according to a new report from the American Dental Education Association.
The organization's February report addresses the link between oral and physical health and how increased integration between primary healthcare and dental care can benefit patients in the prevention and care of oral and chronic diseases such as diabetes. The organization noted in the report that about $42.4 million could be saved if medical screenings for diabetes
and other chronic diseases are done in the dental setting.
The report also discusses the important role dental education plays in training dental professionals to recognize the link between oral health and overall well-being.
