The average total income of hygienists hit an all-time high of $81,627 in 2024, according to Dentalpost's 2025 Dental Salary Survey Report.
Dentalpost surveyed 2,230 dental hygienists to create this year's report. The survey was conducted from October to November 2024.
Six statistics on dental hygienist pay:
1. The average total income of responding hygienists rose for the third year in a row, hitting an all-time high of $81,627.
2. More than 1,200 full-time hygienists reported total annual income ranging from $37,000 to $170,000.
3. States in the Pacific region of the U.S. paid the highest in total income for hygienists, with an average salary of $98,910.
4. More than 1,900 responding full-time and part-time hygienists reported hourly wages ranging from $17 to $90 per hour.
5. The average hourly wage for full-time hygienists in 2024 was $48.85 per hour, compared to $45.75 per hour in 2023.
6. About 50% of responding hygienists said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their total compensation in 2024, including primary wages or salary, bonuses, commissions and benefits.
