Child dental Medicaid reimbursement rates in 2024 vs. 2022

There are 14 states where Medicaid fee-for-service reimbursement as a percentage of average dentist charges for child dental services is at least 50% in 2024, up from 13 states in 2022.

In 2022, there were six states that had a reimbursement rate under 30%, compared to three states in 2024, according to data from the American Dental Association. 

Delaware had the highest reimbursement percentage in 2022 and 2024, surpassing 78% in both years.

The organization created a weighted average index across 14 different procedures and compared the Medicaid fee-for-service reimbursement amount to the average dentist charges.
