There were more than 159,000 general practice dentists in the U.S. in 2023, according to data collected by the American Dental Association's Health Policy Institute.
The data was released to reflect 2023 dentist supply figures in January.
The split of male to female dentists was similar to 2022, with the percentage of female dentists slightly increasing to 37.7%.
Female dentists were on average younger than male dentists in 2023, with 55.2% of female dentists being 44 or younger, compared to 34.7% of male dentists falling in the same age range.
