Venture capital funding in dental AI climbs to $145M in 2024

The oral health AI and machine learning sector has received significant venture capital funding, according to an Oct. 15 report by CareQuest Innovation Partners.

2014 saw only one deal for $5 million. As of Aug. 26, there have been eight deals, totaling more than $145 million in 2024, demonstrating increased interest in the dental AI space and an increase of more than $90 million compared to 2023. 

The deals make up a significant share of all venture capital activity in the oral health industry. In total, the industry has surpassed $400 million in cumulative venture capital deals in 2024.

Here is the total venture capital deal count and value every year since 2014 for AI and machine learning in oral health:

2014: one deal, $5 million total 

2015: five deals, $4 million total 

2016: nine deals, $7.6 million total 

2017: five deals, $13.7 million total 

2018: eight deals, $70.9 million total 

2019: 10 deals, $128.4 million total 

2020: 12 deals, $19.3 million total 

2021: 23 deals, $168 million total 

2022: 21 deals, $147.8 million total 

2023: 13 deals, $54.6 million total 

2024: eight deals, $145.3 million total, year to date
