Dental AI company Overjet is launching Overjet for Kids, an AI program for pediatric dentists.
The program is the only technology that is FDA-approved to detect, outline and quantify tooth decay in children ages 4 and above, according to a March 13 news release from Overjet.
In a study conducted by the FDA, dentists were 100% more accurate in detecting cavities when using Overjet for Kids than they were when evaluating without it. When using the technology, dentists missed 57% fewer cavities and increased patient case acceptance by 25%.
"[P]rior to this technology, there was no way for parents to see what a dentist sees in their child's X-ray, which can lead some parents to not understand the problem or even decline necessary treatment," said Teresa Dolan, DMD, DDS, Overjet's chief dental officer. "Overjet for Kids empowers them to make truly informed decisions, setting kids up for a lifetime of good oral health."
Overjet for Kids analyzes both primary and permanent teeth, as well as detects natural structures, such as enamel and pulp, and artificial structures, such as crowns and fillings, the release said.
Overjet recently raised more than $53 million in funding, the largest-ever investment in the dental AI industry.
