Former employees of the now-defunct SmileDirectClub are dealing with the aftermath of losing their jobs due to the company's closure.
SmileDirectClub announced Dec. 8 it would be shutting down its global operations immediately after efforts to recapitalize the business failed.
Workplace review site Comparably reports SmileDirectClub as having had more than 4,800 employees. The teledentistry company was also the 21st largest employer in Nashville, where it was headquartered, according to The Tennessean.
Workers laid off by the company as part of the closure have begun posting on LinkedIn that they are now looking for new work opportunities.
The Nashville mayor's office partnered with the American Job Center and the Tennessee Department of Labor to host an information session Dec. 18 for former SmileDirectClub employees to learn about resources available to them.
Additionally, several companies have posted about opportunities for former SmileDirectClub employees to join them in new roles.
"To the SmileDirectClub family: In the midst of changes and challenges, we stand with you. We understand that saying goodbye to SmileDirectClub wasn't easy, and we recognize the dedication and heart each of you undoubtedly delivered," Atlanta-based DSO Benevis said on its LinkedIn page. "Your skills in dental care are not just needed at Benevis; they're valued. We’d like to offer you a chance to continue your passion in an environment that’s welcoming and supportive. Whether you’re looking for a similar role or exploring a new path, Benevis could be the perfect fit for your next career step."
Kelly Wethington, a senior talent acquisition partner with Southern Veterinary Partners, also offered former SmileDirectClub employees to contact her for opportunities to join the company.
