A SmileDirectClub employee allegedly shot three other workers Aug. 3 at a manufacturing facility in Nashville, Tenn., ABC News reported.
One victim is in critical condition, police spokesperson Don Aaron said at a news conference.
The suspect was a 22-year-old employee who allegedly left the building as officers arrived. Police found the suspect at an intersection and demanded he drop the weapon, which the suspect instead directed toward officers, Mr. Aaron said.
The suspect was shot by police and pronounced dead at a hospital, ABC News reported.
The suspect appeared to have acted alone, officials said. The suspect, who was not named, started working at SmileDirectClub in June. He had also worked there from late 2019 to early 2020, according to police.
"SmileDirectClub is saddened at the shooting that took place at its manufacturing facilities this morning," the company tweeted Aug. 3. "The incident was contained quickly by security personnel on site."
"The safety of our team members is a top priority for our company and we maintain strict security protocols and a no weapons policy at all of our facilities," SmileDirectClub tweeted. "We are working with the local police as they investigate this matter."
