Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill June 18 formally ending a ban on teledentistry in Texas.
The bill, HB 2056, is effective Sept. 1. Some sections of the insurance code take effect Jan. 1, 2022.
The law prevents the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners from prohibiting teledentistry.
The new law follows a lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation and bipartisan calls for reform, according to The Center Square.
"This is great news for Texas citizens who will continue to have access to quality dental care from the comfort of their homes," said Joshua Polk, an attorney at Pacific Legal Foundation.
"There is a crisis in dental care access in Texas, and this legislation will go a long way in addressing that crisis," Mr. Polk told The Center Square.
