Connecticut dentists pay $498K to settle False Claims Act allegations

Two Connecticut dentists recently agreed to pay more than $498,000 to resolve allegations that they violated the federal and state False Claims Acts.

Bohun Choi, DDS and Michong Son, DDS, operate C&S Family Dental in New Britain and Waterbury, Conn.

Dr. Choi and Dr. Son allegedly paid $110 for each Medicaid patient referred to them by a third-party recruiter for services above routine preventive care. They then allegedly submitted claims for services provided to those patients to the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program, according to a May 6 news release.

The Connecticut Dental Health Partnership provider manual prohibits per-patient compensation for referrals to providers under the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program.

Dr. Choi and Dr. Son agreed to pay $498,310 to resolve the allegations.
