Walmart Health to close all centers, ending its dental care

Walmart is closing all 51 of its Walmart Health centers across five states, signaling the end of its dental care offerings.

The company cited "the challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs" which have created a lack of profitability and created an unsustainable business model, according to an April 30 news release from Walmart.

Walmart opened three centers in Texas in April that offered dental care and dental cleanings and announced plans for 15 additional locations in the state. In February, Walmart Health was hiring for dental roles ahead of opening its first centers in Arizona and Missouri.

On top of closing its physical centers, the company is also ending Walmart Health Virtual Care.

Walmart will continue to operate its nearly 4,600 pharmacies and more than 3,000 vision centers.

There is not a specific closing date for each center at this time, the release said.
